Getting Started#

Welcome to the University of Music Freiburg! On this page, you will find all the important information to make your start easier. The most important services you will use daily are your university email and the learning platform Glarean. You need to register for both services at the beginning of your studies or teaching activity. You will find the login details in your welcome folder.

The University Account#

You will receive your personal university login credentials at the beginning of your studies or employment along with your university ID card. Please keep these details safe and do not share them with anyone. Unless otherwise specified, they serve as login credentials and authentication for all online services of the University of Music Freiburg.

The University Email#

With your login credentials, you can now log in to the mail service of the university. You can find it at webmail.mh-freiburg.de. Using the university email address is mandatory for communication with the university for all members. Use your username (not the email address) and your password to log in.

The Learning Platform Glarean#

Glarean is the teaching and learning platform of the university. After logging in, you will be in your personal dashboard. The dashboard gives you a quick overview of your enrolled and created courses. Instructors can independently create new courses in their areas. These are sorted by subject groups and can be found here.

Furthermore, Glarean has its own mail system, which you can find under Personal Workspace → Mail. In the settings, you can decide whether you want to receive mails only within Glarean or have them forwarded to your university email address.

Enrolling in Courses#

There are several ways to join a course or add participants to your course.

Joining a Course#

Many Glarean courses are now linked to the digital course catalog. Look for the link There is an entry for this event on Glarean. This will take you directly to the corresponding course.

In Glarean, you can also find courses in the individual instructor areas. For some courses, you can join directly; for others, your participation must first be confirmed. If you cannot join a course, please contact the instructor directly.

Adding Students#

You can add students to your course in Glarean via the Members tab. In this case, the students will be notified and can confirm their participation by accepting the privacy policy.

Creating a Course#

As an instructor at the University of Music Freiburg, you receive your own folder within your department, exclusively assigned to you. This workspace is fully at your disposal: you decide on the structure and content, and you create all the courses relevant to you here.
